These 3 simple steps must be completed if you are a newbie and want to get your online business off to the right start. These 3 steps are important to take because you don’t want to be totally clueless when you start your journey to launch your business and gives you guidance where to start. They are as follows:
- Study and research your industry and or niche-Studying your industry and niche is imperative to your success, to advance your level of expertise and offer the best products or services to the public.
Research and Study of you industry includes the following:
A) Research (Google) resources from top experts in your industry. The Internet has plethora of resources available from many experts that will help you get started in building your business which includes courses, trainings, how-to videos and study guides, books and blog posts. These resources are very helpful in advising you on what it takes to get started (e.g., skills), what you need to get started (e.g., materials) and when to get started. I advise you to start by studying the educational resources of 1-2 experts, following more than 2 will have your overwhelmed and confused.
B) Follow your industry experts. This means joining their email lists for the latest updates on education and resources. For example, many experts give away free educational informing you on the ins and outs of the industry. In addition, follow their blogs, youtube channels or other social vlogging platforms and social media pages and groups so that you can get the most knowledge as a newbie of valuable educational content they have to offer.
2. Plan Your Business Launch– After research and study of your industry write out a business plan. A business plan is a roadmap or guide outlining the strategies and goals that you want to implement, usually 10-20 pages long (but if you’re pressed for time, 3-4 pages you just need a written business plan to give you an idea of your strategies and goals). Your business plan will include: A) The name of your business. B) A description of your business (e.g., sole proprietorship, general partnership, limited partnership) C) A description of when and how your business will be operated, organized and managed. D) Description of products and services E) Marketing and sales; what outlets you will use to market your business (e.g., your blog, social media page or website) F) How will you fund your business? In this section of your business plan you need to include other important information such as your prices and rates (e.g. charge by the hour or package), your target audience (e.g. realtors, mompreneurs, entrepreneurs, wedding planners), day and month, year you will launch, resume, the materials you (e.g., computer, smartphone, business bank account, EIN (Employee Identification Number) need to get started and how much they will costs and the type of licenses and permits necessary to run your business.
NOTE: It is also important to study sites, such as the U.S. Small Business Administration site, that supports entrepreneurs and small business owners assistance and guidance on the many aspects (i.e., business management, business loans, licensing, taxes) of starting and managing a business.
